The team at Horses & Hieroglyphs was wonderful to the group of 27 that toured Cairo, Luxor and Hurghada. I joined the group for 10 days of the adventure and had a fabulous time. Traveling with food allergies is a challenge but Horses & Hieroglyphs accommodated my allergy at every meal. Bottled water was always available upon request at the hotels and the staff was friendly and informative. The group included people who had visit Egypt in past years. Horses & Hieroglyphs provided options for first and second time visitors. Highlights included visits to the Giza Pyramids, Valley of the Kings, and Hatshepsut Temple. We also had the opportunity to take a hot air balloon ride where we saw Hatshepsut Templet from the air! A sun set ride on the Nile was beautiful and dinner in the desert was fun. I had an opportunity to ride one of the horses in the desert. As a beginner horse rider, it was an incredible experience and hope to make it back one day to take a longer horse back ride! Riding horses at the Pyramids is a once in a lifetime experience you will be describing to all your friends and family. Annemarie makes is super easy and super fun! From online booking, to meeting up and through the ride itself - she was calm, friendly and knowledgeable. Cairo is a little chaotic (a little?) and doing this with Annemarie took all the stress out of it. And she sent pictures afterwards! I really appreciated their effort in assigning me a horse that suited me well. Throughout the long journey in the desert, they provided meticulous support to ensure a comfortable and safe ride without any injuries, which was truly touching. The guide’s explanation of the history was also very detailed. I felt deeply connected to Egypt’s history, and the journey with the horses made the experience even more special. EXCELLENTVerified Another trip to Egypt We had an amazing time! Not only did we get to see so many of the wonderful sites but we really got to experience the culture of Egypt. Hores and Hieroglyphs makes everything easy and effortless. Even if you aren’t into horseback riding I would still recommend this company for your time in Egypt. This was our second trip with them and we can wait to plan another trip with them. They made sure that we got to see different historical sites than our first trip and the guides are so knowledgeable. We visited Cairo, Luxor and Hurghada all in one trip. Not to mention the food and soft drinks were included. An unbelievable value. We didn’t have one worry or concern. The team did an incredible job customizing the itinerary to first and second time visitors to Egypt for the group of 27 people. Though horse back riding is the primary focus of Horse & Hieroglyphs, the team organized tours to the sites with informed and passionate tour guides to the Giza Pyramids, The Egyptian Museum, The Mosque of Muhammed Ali, Ramesseum & Habu Temple, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple, Karnak & Luxor Temple. From the first day to the last day, Annmarie and her team ensured we all had a marvelous time. Food allergies were considered and options to accommodate were provided at every restaurant throughout the trip. We also had the opportunity to take a hot air balloon ride in Luxor, a sunset cruise on the Nile and stops for shopping at an Alabaster Store and the Luxor Market. The hotel locations at all three cities were accommodating, welcoming, bottled water was always available and ensured we had a restful stay. I did have the opportunity to ride one evening in the desert as the sun was setting which made for an unforgettable experience. She even will arrange separate tours if you want to go and see other thingsVerified An Experience of a Lifetime with Heiroglyphs and Horses If you are a good rider, if you love riding responsive horses who well cared for, and if you’ve always wanted to explore the ancient wonders of Egypt, this is the holiday for you! Horses and Hieroglyphs gave me a unique and amazing experience that I’ll savour for the rest of my life.We started off in Cairo with an exciting trail ride (including lots of galloping) around the 3 main pyramids in Giza. Other highlights were visiting the less crowded step pyramid at Saqqara where we also explored some tombs with amazing artwork on the walls, and seeing the Tutankhamun treasures in the Egyptian Museum, all in the company of an informative guide.My favourite time though was when we went to Luxor and met Annmarie and the horses who we would ride for the rest of the trip. They were high quality rescue horses who had been trained to be totally calm in crazy traffic and would also gallop willingly in the desert when asked. Our time was split fairly equally between riding and sightseeing (accompanied by an expert guide) which was a perfect combination.Highlights for me were:1. The magical day when we rode for several hours into the desert as the sun set and camped overnight in the sand dunes with the horses, where our guides cooked us a delicious Egyptian meal.2. Riding the horses right up to Ramesseum and Medinet Habu temples.3. Our trip to Valley of the Kings where we explored the inner regions of three of the pharaohs’ tombs.4. A sunset cruise up the Nile.5. Our last evening eating food cooked by AnnMarie’s hospitable Egyptian family as we sat in the stable area with the horses.The accommodation was in a traditional Egyptian setting which felt authentic and was very relaxing and comfortable, and our group of six all got along! I totally recommend this trip if you are a competent rider (but I think adjustments can be made for novices).Verified Luxor Adventure We had the best time. Our trip was the perfect balance of riding, camping and seeing the tombs, temples and sights of Luxor. AnnMarie set up alternative jeep arrangements for two of our group who were less comfortable riding the whole time to be able to camp with us, which was really appreciated. The horses and riding were wonderful. Guides both riding and later sightseeing were professional, knowledgeable. Highly recommended.Verified Excellent Egypt Tour/Experience Just an amazing custom trip via Equitours/USA combining touring (Cairo/Giza, Aswan, Luxor, Nile boat trip) and horse riding (Pyramids, Sunset dunes, Sunrise hot air balloon viewing). Annmarie, the outfitter (and staff), was outstanding - accommodating, flexible, and personable. The Luxor/Outfitters horses were excellent and basically bomb proof - absolutely nothing fazed them, very responsive and great canters/gallops. The Nile boat/Dahabeah "Tranquility" was wonderful, and the boat staff and food was terrific. Out tour guide (Sunny) was extremely knowledgeable and engaging in his conveying of the Egyptian history of the Temples, Kings and Gods. All land accommodations were very good and outside Cairo/Giza more traditional Egyptian style guest houses. Definitely recommend Horses&Hieroglyphs for an Egypt trip!!Verified It’s Not Just About the Riding Our first visit to Egypt and a wonderful trip including not just some exciting riding but also a Nile cruise and visits to a number of fascinating temples.The horses are rescue animals which have been expertly trained to be totally “bomb proof” when riding through busy (and noisy) streets. There is the chance for rides at sunset and sunrise and for fast gallops in the desert for those so inclined. Expert guides were on hand for temple visits (it’s not just about the pyramids and King Tut) and to smooth the way through the business of getting tickets and negotiating with local transport. The cruise (another aspect that can be arranged separately or incorporated in a “package”) was delightful. January was a good time to visit with temperatures in the 70s and 80s during the day. Those describing nights as “cool” probably haven’t experienced the UK at that time of year! Would highly recommend for the range of options and flexibility in customising a holiday.
